Short But Sweet, Polite And Respectful #12

Always wanted War / Ghost Cat – Split

The split with Ghost Cat is already the eighth release of AWW. The threepiece from Cuxhaven, Germany contributes two tracks. Both new and full of aggressive, yet melodious guitar riffs, which are carried by drums, bass and some of the sickest vocals I’ve heard in a while. The second side by Ghost Cat also contains two songs. While the first side of the collaboration was quite rough, the melancholic emo sound of Ghost Cat from Jensen Beach, FL creates the perfect contrast. The split, which is co-released by Tief in Marcellos Schuld Records, Krimskramz and several other labels, is out on 01 July 2015.

“Spent the days with running away; growing up was our first mistake; taking action never meant the same again.”

Chambers - s/t ep

Chambers is a young and talented group of four musicians from Berlin, playing kind of dark hardcore. The first musical output of the newcomers is characterized by a gloomy and dense atmosphere, which is created by clattering basslines, rattling drums and mighty guitar walls. In general the sound of this band, which had a great opportunity playing the recent Miss The Stars Fest, is pleasing and definitely well-made. Yet we are still missing more variety. However, the closing track stands out and delivers the highlight of the well-produced EP, letting you divine the great potential of this band.

zato.ino - bleeding lungs

Bleeding Lungs by Zato.ino could be described as a little musical experiment. The band from Budapest, Hungary tried to create something new, to take their sound to a whole other level. The song, which is released as a single, contains a lot of different parts, including changes in tempo and style. The three-headed emo/screamo outfit takes the listener to a journey through some complex and beautiful screamo soundscapes. Experiment, succeeded!

“Run while you can, but you’ll always catch yourself.”

George Booth - S/T Demo

Pay attention! George Booth could be the next big thing in this genre. Patrick, Jed, Dylan and Jack are totally killing it on their brilliant 2-track Demo. Hailing from Newcastle, Australia their sound is full of twinkling guitar parts and lacy melodies, which go straight to your ears. Alongside their catchy tunes you get to hear some pretty intense vocals. It’s a pity; the demo only lasts a bit more than five minutes. I want to hear more!

“Cause we were something worth keeping, like a prize, a trophy on a shelf, out of reach of repeat, gold plastic that you could fucking swear was real and I hope that’s all I ever was to you.”

Eaglehaslanded / Foxmoulder – Split

After one split and one EP, the Split with Foxmoulder is already the third release of Eaglehaslanded featured in this category. Besides five new angry songs, the side of the band from Belgrade also includes two older songs, which were released earlier this year on a 2-song-EP. The remaining five tracks are contributed by Foxmoulder from Toronto, Canada. Their lyrics are utterly beautiful, wrapped in an amazing screamo soundscape. Co-released by Koepfen, Krimskramz, Boslevan, TRVS Records, Mosh Potatoes and Zegema Beach Records, the 12’’ Split will be published in August. It will be available on black vinyl, which comes up with various sleeves in different color combinations.

“So is this your home you fight for? Or just another place to hide?”

Erros + Massacre / Tempano – Split

Erros + Massacre from Madrid, Spain are also not unfamiliar to this category. Following their split with Coma Regalia this is their second release in 2015. This time they teamed up with their compatriots in Tempano. Compared with the metropolitans, the sound of Tempano is more playful, which is ascribable to the short playtime of the chaotic songs of the Madrilenians. None of their tracks reaches the playtime of one and a half minutes. Anyway, both sides of the Split have their own charm, perfectly harmonizing together. The record will be published by 14 different labels from seven different countries, including Dingleberry, Pike Records, Pure Heart Records and Boslevan.

“When you think make a prisoner, art is your last weapon. Chaos never died.”

Hey Ruin – S/T

On their selftitled EP seven inch, Hey Ruin from Trier, Germany are taking you to a diverting journey through two melancholic songs. Their danceable emopunk sound is studded with indi-ish melodies and eloquent lyrics. This combination is a perfect fit, which results in a joyful listening experience. If you like “Brangelina”, “Willy Fog” or “atmen, weiter…” you will love both songs of the EP, which is available via Fear Of The Heights and Homebound Records.

“Was jucken mich die alten Lieder? Ich will die Hits hören und zwar immer wieder!”

„Und sie sagt, dass Ordnung außen, Ordnung innen schafft. Und er sagt, dass eine runde Birne noch keinen Apfel macht!“

Marais / Auszenseiter – Split

Lastly, another split record. Released by I.CORRUPT.RECORDS, lifeisafunnything, Allende Records and Voice Of The Unheard, this liaison works incredible well. The first five tracks are contributed by Marais from Cologne, Germany. Apart from two old songs, there are also three new ones, recorded in the same 90s inspired style as the songs from their selftitled debut EP. Each of them is beautiful, packed with mighty soundwalls made of wrathy screams and angry guitar riffs. By this time it’s absolutely no secret that Marais are on top of the game in this genre. The second side of the Split is home to four Auszenseiter tunes. The gnarly sound of the Westphalians could be described as crusty screamo, which builds the perfect counterpart to the previous half of the Split. Go and preorder this entrancing collaboration on 12’’ vinyl!

Annakarina – Erasure, I Realized The Fix Was In

Founded back in 2010, Annakarina put out their third Extended Play named “Erasure, I Realized The Fix Was In” a few days ago. It contains two new songs, both full of complex and chaotic sound structures, supported by hysteric vocals. The emoviolence quartet from Pittsburgh, PA is delivering a perfect compound of faster, more aggressive parts and slower song sections, which brings in some structure into the chaos. The EP is available on cassette via Driftwood Records and Special Death.

Addition: If you buy the EP on bandcamp you'll receive an exclusive bonus track.

Fist Benders – Fist Benders

Another release by Driftwood Records and another fucking gem. Fist Benders from Fullerton, CA just produced their second EP, following their debut called “It’s Raining”. The sound of the four-headed emopunk outfit from Orange County, is characterized by the twinkling guitar riffs, which seems to be highly influenced by the sunny temper of The Golden State. Contrary to their joyful sound, the lyrics are as emotive and depressive as lyrics from a record out of this genre can be. Well-made! Until the release of the tapes you have to settle for the stream on the band’s bandcamp.

“I'm scared that everything I do will replace my memories of you, so I'm not doing a thing. I'll just stay in bed and daydream until you let me in.”

Fight Vasquez – Demo

Fight Vasquez is a yet quite unknown screamo threepiece from London, which recently released their first musical output in form of a demo. The production of the four songs sounds crude and rough, lending the demo an authentic vibe. For me the third track, called “Reaction Formation” is the highlight on their auspicious Freshman release. So, just take a little time and make sure to give them a listen. It’s absolutely worth it.

Pale Hands - Конец первой главы

Hailing from St. Petersburg, Russia, the sophisticated sound of Pale Hands could be specified as a felicitous blend of screamo and dark post-rock. During the last track you can even hear some metal influences. Thereby it doesn’t matter, what genre they make use of; Bogdan, Egor, Maxim, Valeriy and Andrey definitely know their craft. Every single seconds of Конец первой главы sounds brilliant. Pretty stoked for the next releases of the band. Hopefully, we don't need to wait too long.
